Beginner Arabic Morphology 1

This course provides students with a needed base understanding of how Arabic root letters are conjugated to create different words that give information about the subject and action of a sentence. By the end of the course, students will know how to conjugate verbs in various tenses, determine base letters from non-base letters, and identify verbal patterns that convey information about the number, gender, and voice of the subject of a sentence. Through rigorous repetition of the various patterns as applied to different verbs, newly learnt concepts are applied to ensure complete comprehension of the material covered.

Course Objectives 

Ø  Be able to demonstrate an understanding of masadir (root words)

Ø  Be able to distinguish between three lettered and four lettered verbs

Ø  Be able to show an understanding between formal Arabic and colloquial Arabic

Ø  Review of all 6 categories of verbs

Ø  Understanding the differences between the various classes of verbs

Ø  Memorization of all tenses and conjugations

Ø  Understanding how to determine base letters from non-base letters

Ø  Identify verbal patterns that convey information about the number, gender, and voice of the subject of a sentence

Ø  constant application of newly learnt concepts in order to ensure comprehension

Ø  Quranic word usage and root analysis

Ø  Passive vs. active voice (Majhool and Ma’roof)
