Shaykh Sulaiman Moola

Shaykh Sulaiman Moola is a dynamic young traditional scholar and lecturer of the Islamic sciences who is a popular guest speaker at conferences across the globe. He is known to deliver the message of Islam impacting the audience and in particular the youth.

Shaykh Sulaiman Moola [may Allah preserve him] began studying the sacred sciences at an early age. After having completed the memorization of the Quran at the age of 14, for the next seven years he would go on to study Arabic [and all its related sciences becoming especially fluent in Arabic poetry], Tafsir, Hadith, Aqidah and Fiqh [specializing in the Hanafi School].

Having studied under senior ulama from South Africa and the Indian Subcontinent and receiving ijazah from them, he went on to teach at the well known Islamic seminary in South Africa, Dar al-Uloom Zakariyya. Shaykh Sulaiman Moola frequently addresses Islamic topics on the radio and in Friday sermons across South Africa. He recently has published a book, The Sun That Never Set, through Mathabah where he is a senior advisor and teacher.

Shaykh Sulaiman Moola has traveled extensively throughout the Muslim world and the West for the purpose of Dawah and teaching. His travels and lectures have been a means of great inspiration to many across the globe.

Shaykh Navaid Aziz

Shaykh Navaid completed an Associate’s degree in Commerce and Social Sciences before heading to the illustrious Islamic University of Madinah. He went on to complete a diploma in the Arabic language as well as a Bachelor’s in Islamic Law, with a specialization in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh.

Since then, Shaykh Navaid established himself as a highly sought after global lecturer and speaker. He is a passionate advocate for Muslim youth education and integration with a proven track record over the years. He is currently the Director of Religious and Social Services for the Islamic Information Society of Calgary, volunteered as Islamic Editor for Little Explorers and Recess Kids magazines, serves as a youth and family counsellor, volunteered as chaplain at S.A.I.T, and became the first ever Muslim chaplain with the Calgary Police Services in 2015. His work includes helping in the mitigation of criminal radicalization and implementing civic engagement opportunities for youth.

Navaid’s free time is spent exploring local eateries, traveling, and hiking the Canadian Rockies. He is also known to enjoy playing basketball and hosting game nights—with Monopoly and Cranium being his favourites.

Shaykh Alaa Elsayed

Sheikh Alaa was born in Cairo and lived in Egypt until he was 15 years old. During his youth, he spent his time as the goalie for the Junior National Team and moved to Toronto, Canada in the late 1970’s.

Sheikh Alaa studied for his Bachelors in Shariah from the American International University and earned a scholarship from the Shari'ah Academy/Mishkah University in Florida. Sheikh Alaa has also received his ijazah of Quran recitation for Hafs an Asim and studied comparative religion for five years through the IPCI in South Africa. He was on the board of directors of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth.

Sheikh Alaa currently lives in GTA (Greater Toronto Area) with his wife and three children. He is a member of the Canadian Council of Imams as well as a member of Horizon Interfaith Communication Media Council. Prior to this, he was an Imam for the Muslim Council of Calgary and acted as its media spokesperson. He has hosted Vision of Islam, a weekly television show which runs throughout Alberta, Canada. He has also appeared as a speaker on Islam on various television channels, including Peace TV.

Shaykh Abdullah Waheed

Sheikh Abdullah Waheed was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, MI. Sheikh Abdullah commenced his studies at the age of 10 in Toronto, Canada where he went to memorize the Quran.  He completed the memorization of the Holy Quran by the tender age of 12 and then went on to study in the 7 year extensive Shariah program in Toronto, Canada. Sheikh Abdullah then continued his research and studies, which took him on global journeys, such as Pakistan, Kuwait, and England.

Sheikh Abdullah specialized in Tafseer of the Quran. Sheikh Abdullah spent years to study the details and beauty of our Holy book since understanding and mastering the language of Holy Quran was always the primary goal.

Sheikh Abdullah is serving as an Instructor at Miftaah institute and is also the Director of Islamic Affairs at Flint Islamic Center. Sheikh Abdullah travels across North America for khutbas, workshops, and seminars. He is known for his motivational and enthusiastic style of speaking which leaves the audience focused and learning.  

Mufti Hussain Kamani

Mufti Hussain Kamani was born to a Hindu revert-to-Islam and Muslim father in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. With the blessings and du’a (supplications) of his parents, Mufti Hussain Kamani underwent a journey of a lifetime in pursuit of sacred Islamic knowledge. He began his pursuit of the Islamic sciences at the young age of six to memorize the entire Quran at the acclaimed Darul Uloom Madania in Buffalo, New York. By the blessings of Allah, subhanahu wa ta’ala, he was able to complete this momentous task in 1999. Having the growing thirst to quench more knowledge, Mufti Kamani then traveled across the world to the United Kingdom to attain more advanced formal Islamic authorizations in the field of Islamic theology.

He studied at Darul Uloom Bury, the renowned seminary of the great revivalist and scholar of Hadith, Shaykh-ul-Hadith Zakariyya Kandhlawi (Rahmatullahi Alayh). Mufti Kamani completed the traditional six-year curriculum covering the Arabic language, Arabic morphology, Islamic jurisprudence, Tafseer (exegis) of the Holy Qur’an, Hadith (Prophetic Sciences), philosophy, and Aqeedah (Islamic Creed) under the guidance of some of the pioneer scholars in England, including Shaykh Yusuf Motala, Shaykh Hashim, Shaykh Bilal and Shaykh Abdur Raheem bin Dawood amongst others. Upon graduation he was then was specially selected to enter a post-graduate level course in Islamic Law and Legal Verdicts (Fatwa). He completed this course in two years and received formal authorization in it as well.

Alongside his religious studies, Mufti Kamani was blessed with having the opportunity to study the secular and academic sciences. He completed his graduate degree in Business Management from the University of Coventry in England as well.

Shaykh Mohammed Almasmari

Imam Mohamed Al-Masmari, of Yemeni descent, was born and raised in Michigan. He memorized the Qur'an at a very early age and after high school, left to study at Sana'a University. Soon after, he obtained his Bachelor/Master Degrees in Islamic Law & Islamic Science from Yemen. During his studies, he was able to obtain ijaazas in recitation & teaching of Al-Qur'an, Qur'anic Exegesis (Tafseer-ul-Qur'an), Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), Sahih Bukhari & Muslim and Imam Nawwawi's works such as the commentary to Sahih Muslim and Riyaad-us-Saliheen.

In 2007, he became the Imam of a local masjid in California few miles down from Shaykh Zaid Shakir, where he left a very high standard and tough shoes to fill. Then, In 2009, he was called upon to serve in Brooklyn in a community that was desperately in need of an Ameer (leader). Within two years, Alhamdulillah Shaykh Almasmari, by the Will of Allah swt was able turn that community around for the better. He has lead taraweeh prayers during the month of Ramadan since the age of 18 and has two children. Now Sheik Mohamed Al-Masmari is the Imam and Khatib at Muslim Unity Center in Bloomfield Hills Michigan.

Mufti Abdul Rahman Waheed

Mufti Abdul Rahman Waheed was born and raised in Lansing, MI. As a youth, he displayed zeal and enthusiasm to involve himself in the religious sciences. At just 9 years of age, Mufti Abdul Rahman went to Toronto, Canada to pursue his dreams of becoming a Hafidh of the Holy Qur'an. Within a year, he completed the memorization of the Qur'an. He was known to be from among the most intelligent students in the school. He continued his 7 year Shariah program in which he studied a variety of subjects such as Hadith, Tafseer, Usool al-Hadith, logic, rhetoric by the age of 18. Thereafter, Mufti Abdul Rahman traveled to Pakistan to continue his passion to seek knowledge where he completed his 2 year Iftaa program which specializes in Islamic Jurisprudence and Law. He is legally permitted to pass a Fatwa or verdict.

He is known for his passion and dedication to learning and teaching the lost history of Islam and provides detailed insight on how Muslims lived throughout the different eras of history. Mufti Abdul Rahman gives insight to various literature in the Islamic world. 

Mufti Abdul Rahman is serving as a principal and is a  full-time instructor at Michigan Islamic Institute, the brother organization of Miftaah Institute. He travels across North America as a khateeb and lecturer. He is well-known for his calm and down-to-Earth demeanor. 


Shaykh Mohamed Al-Jammali

Shaykh Yousef Wahb

Sh. Yousef Wahb is a graduate of Al-Azhar’s Faculty of Languages and Translation, where he studied Islamic Studies in the English Language. He has also acquired an Advanced Level of Qira’at (Quranic modes of Recitation) from Al-Azhar Institute.

He has dedicated over 10 years as an imam and visiting lecturer at various Islamic Centres, mosques, schools, and youth camps. Previously, he headed the Academic Committee of Shaykh al-Amoud Foundation to educate youth in Egypt on the various branches of Islamic knowledge. Since 2014, he has been serving Windsor's Muslim community, initially as an Imam at the Rose City Islamic Centre and currently as the Imam of Youth, Education & Outreach at the Windsor Islamic Association. He serves several community initiatives through the Windsor Imams Council and the Windsor Islamic Council while continuing to teach a wide array of disciplines (including Quran, Fiqh, Hadith, Aqeeda, and Logic) to diverse ages and audiences in both Arabic and English through the Al-Majlis program. Sh. Yousef also regularly counsels: Mosque congregants, special case referrals through ISWA, and youth, in coordination with the Muslim Student Association at the University.
