The Final Departure

Everyone you love will leave, or you will.

This is the one certainty we spend our lives arranging not to think about. And then it arrives — a phone call, a hospital room, a grave being filled — and we find we have no framework for it. No language. Only grief.

The Final Departure is not a lecture. It is a journey.

Over one evening, Ahmad Hirachi walks you through the departure itself — what the soul meets, what the body leaves behind, what waits in the barzakh — carried by visuals, by stories, and by what he has witnessed firsthand at the bedsides and gravesides of people who have made this passage.

And it does not end at the grave. What Islam promises is not only patience through loss, but reunion — that those who are taken from us are not gone, only gone ahead.

You will see it. Not as a metaphor, and not as a list of rulings, but as the journey every one of us is already on.

There will be space for your questions. Many of them are the ones people don’t feel able to ask out loud.

Who this is for

Everyone.

Young and old, men and women, those who have buried someone and those who never have. The scholar and the person who hasn’t been to the masjid in years. Bring your parents. Bring your children who are old enough to sit with it.

This is the one topic no one is exempt from.

You do not need to arrive composed. Come as you are.

Highlights

Understand the Islamic journey of death and the soul’s departure, including what occurs at death, the transition from this world, and the realities of Barzakh.

Develop a framework for navigating grief and loss through the guidance of the Qur’an, Sunnah, and Islamic teachings on patience, remembrance, and acceptance.

Reflect on the temporary nature of this world and the certainty of the Hereafter, cultivating greater awareness of one’s own mortality and preparing for the inevitable final departure.

Reframe loss through the Islamic promise of reunion, gaining hope and perspective through the belief that death is not an ending, but a transition toward the Hereafter.
